This is a necklace with akoya pearls. Akoya pearls are grown in the Pinctada fucata martensii, better known as the Akoya oyster. This oyster is mainly found in Japan and China. Famous for their
brilliance, akoya pearls are called the classic pearls. They are mainly white or slightly creamy in colour, with overtones of rose, silver, green or cream. Nowadays, akoya pearls are also cultivated
in China, but they have less lustre than their Japanese predecessors.
